SANTA CLARITA : Council OKs Plan to Close VFW Hall
- Share via
A local veterans’ bar and meeting hall will stop serving alcohol this fall and close Jan. 28 under a plan approved this week by the Santa Clarita City Council.
Earlier this year, the council ordered Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6885 to shut down in response to complaints from neighbors who said the hall is a nuisance that does not belong in residential Sand Canyon.
The closure plan, approved 4 to 1 late Tuesday, was drawn up by city planners after meetings between homeowners and the veterans. It requires the post to immediately stop leasing the two-story building for weddings and other parties because of complaints about noisy parties, litter and public drunkenness. The council gave the post until Oct. 28 to stop serving liquor, provided the veterans sign a resolution agreeing to do so. If they do not sign the resolution, the city will force the post to stop serving liquor Sept. 30, council members said.
VFW officials said they will seek another location for their post.
