LOS ANGELES : Karlin’s Husband Ran Over Protester’s Foot, Group Says
- Share via
A group opposing Superior Court Judge Joyce Karlin claims that Karlin’s husband, South Bay congressional candidate Bill Fahey, drove over the foot of one of its members during a demonstration last month.
The group, the Latasha Harlins Justice Committee, asked the Los Angeles Police Commission this week to order an investigation, charging that police at the scene had failed to take action. The Police Department is looking into the matter, Richard Dameron, the commission’s executive officer, said Wednesday.
Fahey disputes the account of the anti-Karlin group, which was formed last year after his wife sentenced a Korean grocer, Soon Ja Du, to five years probation for shooting and killing Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old black girl.
He acknowledged Wednesday that after a Bel-Air fund-raiser last month for Karlin’s reelection campaign, he drove past about a dozen protesters as he entered the host’s driveway to pick up his wife. But his car was kicked by one of the protesters and at no time ran over anyone’s foot, he said.
