4 Area Teams in CIF Playoffs Compete Tonight

Four area high school teams return to action tonight at 7:30 in second-round games of the CIF Southern California high school basketball playoffs.
In boys’ Division II, Artesia (26-4) plays at Torrey Pines of Del Mar (28-3). Artesia defeated host East Bakersfield, 61-60, in overtime Tuesday night on a three-point shot by Shawn Caracoza with 14 seconds left. Torrey Pines outscored La Palma Kennedy, 33-16, in the second half and advanced with a 58-36 victory.
Pius X (23-6) plays at San Diego Lincoln Prep (22-8) in boys’ Division IV. Junior forward Jacobi Thompson scored 21 points Tuesday night to lead the Warriors past Santa Monica Crossroads, 68-54. Lincoln Prep defeated Tollhouse Serra Union, 58-48.
In girls’ Division I, Lynwood (27-2) is on the road tonight at Thousand Oaks (29-1), a 54-32 victor over Clovis West Tuesday. Lynwood built a 43-23 third-quarter lead and defeated Los Angeles Washington, 53-43, Tuesday night.
In girls’ Division II, second-seeded Gahr (26-4) will play host to Torrance Bishop Montgomery (25-7). Gahr shot 81% from the line Tuesday night in beating San Diego University City, 69-61. Bishop Montgomery edged Sanger, 52-51, on an eight-foot baseline jumper by Mirlen Martinez with two seconds left in the game.
