BREA — Only a 30-second shot clock malfunction could stop the Brea-Olinda girls’ basketball team from scoring during the first-round of the Southern California Division III regional playoffs Tuesday.
Brea-Olinda (29-2), the Southern Section Division III-AA champions, scored the game’s first 10 points, led by 35 points at halftime, and coasted to a 96-16 blowout over West Hills (8-17), the San Diego Section champion, Tuesday at Brea-Olinda High School.
Brea-Olinda hosts the West Covina South Hills-Our Lady of the Peace winner Thursday in the semifinals.
Nicole Erickson led Brea-Olinda with 23 points, nine assists and six steals while teammate Jody Anton had 19 points and eight rebounds. Both players did all of their damage in the first three quarters as Trakh emptied his bench for the fourth quarter.
