DIVISION II GIRLS’ SOCCER : Harrison Leads Falcons to Victory
The rainy winter conditions at Hilltop High were not what Summer Harrison envisioned for a San Diego Section championship girls’ soccer game. But Harrison, top-seeded Torrey Pines’ talented freshman center forward, adjusted soon enough to lead the Falcons to the Division II championship Monday.
Harrison scored the first three Torrey Pines goals in a 5-3 victory over San Pasqual. Torrey Pines finished 23-2-2, while San Pasqual, which twice tied the game, 1-1 and 2-2, finished 18-4-5.
“At first we weren’t ready to play, because the game was postponed and the field was really bumpy,†Harrison said. “The ball just slipped and died. But when we got going, we knew we’d win.â€
The Falcons also got goals from Ashley Hanson and Samantha Easton in capturing their second consecutive title. The Golden Eagles got goals by Kylene Dyson, Erin Blunt and Shannon MacMillan, who closed the gap to 4-3 in the 65th minute.
