Santa Barbara, Long Beach Win; Gauchos Seeded No. 1 in Big West
UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Long Beach won Big West games Sunday and learned they were seeded Nos. 1 and 3 in the Big West Conference Tournament, which begins Friday at Long Beach.
Santa Barbara beat Pacific, 70-68, at Stockton, and the 49ers defeated San Jose State, 93-80, at San Jose.
Lucious Harris and Chris Tower each scored 23 points for the 49ers.
With Big West champion Nevada Las Vegas (26-2) ineligible, the seedings and first-round matchups for the tournament are:
No. 1 UC Santa Barbara (20-7) vs. No. 8 UC Irvine (6-21), 7 p.m.; No. 2 New Mexico State (20-7) vs. No. 7 Fresno State (15-15), 3 p.m.; No. 3 Long Beach (17-10) vs. No. 6 Cal State Fullerton (12-15), 9 p.m., and No. 4 Utah State (16-11) vs. No. 5 Pacific (12-15), 1 p.m.
