OUTLOOK
Winning league could be a formality for Foothill this season. The Knights opened the season ranked No. 2 in the State, according to Cal-Hi Sports, returning seven starters from a team that won 22 consecutive games and advanced to the Southern Section Division 4-A championship game last season. Only shortstop Kathy Shortall and center fielder Julie Ehret graduated from the team that lost to Irvine, 1-0, in the finals. Heading the list of returners for Gonzalez is his daughter, Leeann, a first-team All-Southern Section pitcher and league most valuable player in ’91. Leeann finished 21-3 with an earned-run average of 0.31. Also returning are Green, a first-team All-Southern Section catcher, Mazurie, and Wielandt. All three earned first-team all-league honors in ’91 and each hit more than .320 in league play. Chambers and Tessman also return after earning second-team all-league honors.
