Don Heinrich, 62, a two-time All-American quarterback at the University of Washington, died at his home in Saratoga, Calif., after a long battle with cancer.

Heinrich led the nation in passing in 1950 and ’52 and played in the same backfield with Hugh McElhenny. Heinrich played five years with the New York Giants and later was an assistant coach with Dallas, the Giants, New Orleans, the Rams, Pittsburgh and San Francisco before becoming a broadcaster in 1976.
