Teen-Ager Believed Drowned at Beach
A teen-ager is believed to have drowned Sunday when he and three companions became caught in a riptide while surfing at Border Field State Park. The three other boys were rescued by San Diego city lifeguards.
Lifeguards, sheriff’s deputies and helicopters from the Sheriff’s Department, Coast Guard and Border Patrol searched for the unidentified missing boy until darkness fell.
Relatives of the four youths, believed to be Mexican nationals, summoned aid for the boys after hearing their cries for help as the riptide carried them out to sea.
