Abandoned Newborn in Good Condition
A newborn boy found abandoned Sunday in front of a storefront church in North Hollywood was in good condition at a local hospital, authorities said.
The infant, between six hours and 1 day old, was discovered shortly after 12:30 p.m. wrapped in blankets outside the church in the 11400 block of Oxnard Street, authorities said. Someone inside the building dialed 911, and paramedics picked up the baby.
Venus Baybordi, emergency room coordinator at AMI Medical Center of North Hollywood, described the seven-pound, nine-ounce boy as possibly Latino, with dark hair and dark eyes. The baby wore a T-shirt with the word Northridge across the chest, and still had his umbilical cord attached but unclamped, which would indicate birth outside a hospital setting, she said.
A young girl apparently saw a woman, possibly the infant’s mother, place the child outside the church and then limp away, Baybordi said. Police are investigating the incident.
