HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL BOYS’ PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Holds Off Dominguez, 54-48

Miles Simon, a sophomore reserve guard, came off the bench and scored 24 points to lead top-ranked Santa Ana Mater Dei to a 54-48 victory over Dominguez in a Southern Section I-A Division quarterfinal game at Huntington Beach Ocean View High Friday night.

The 6-foot-3 Simon made nine of 16 shots, including four three-pointers. He scored 10 points in the second quarter to rally Mater Dei (29-1) from an 18-13 deficit.

Dominguez (19-8) led, 30-28, during the third quarter behind Jason Pickett, who scored 10 of his team-high 14 points during the quarter. But Simon again brought the Monarchs back.
