Deputy Arrested at Girlfriend’s Arraignment
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy attending the arraignment of his girlfriend on charges of child abuse was arrested in an Antelope Valley courthouse Friday on suspicion of the same offense, authorities said.
Deputy Daniel Casteel, 29, was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. at the arraignment of Rebecca Collins in Antelope Valley Municipal Court in Lancaster, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ron Spear said. Collins, 25, had been arrested earlier in the week.
Casteel, a seven-year veteran, is suspected of abusing Collins’ 18-month-old daughter, who was brought to Edwards Air Force Base Hospital earlier this month suffering from fractures of the ribs, hip and forearm, Spear said.
The toddler, who is now with her father, remains in a body cast but is expected to recover, authorities said. The father’s name was not released.
