Duarte : Cinco de Mayo Fiesta OKd
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to co-sponsor a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta with the East San Gabriel Valley League of United Latin American Citizens, and to contribute $1,000 toward the event.
The festival will be May 2 from noon until 6 p.m. at the Northview Intermediate School athletic field, 1401 S. Highland Ave. Organizers are planning traditional folklorico dancing, strolling mariachis and a variety of ethnic foods.
A spokesman for the league told council members that 75% of profits derived from the sale of food and concessions will be used to provide scholarships for local students.
