The Boston Red Sox received word that first baseman Carlos Quintana had suffered a broken left arm in an auto accident in Venezuela.
Quintana was injured while rushing two brothers to a hospital after they were shot at a party.
Quintana, who batted .295 last year, is expected to be sidelined for several months.
