Bankruptcy Filing Said Imminent for McCrory Corp.: The five-and-dime store operator and parent of 819 TGY, J.J. Newberry, Kress and other variety stores across the nation’s inner cities, has summoned its managers to an extraordinary meeting Friday morning. Sources said managers expect to be told of a bankruptcy protection filing at the Friday meeting. McCrory, controlled by the controversial financier Meshulam Riklis, operates 98 stores in California, most of them under the Newberry name.
