A Fan Says Goodby to Red Patterson
Baseball lost one of its best in Red Patterson. For years, I would call up the Dodgers and later the Angels and ask to speak to Red. I was so surprised at how accessible he was. I was so amazed that he would take my calls, and I assume others.
My interest wasn’t even the Dodgers or Angels, but my favorite ballclub, the Cincinnati Reds. And that was fine with him. He would speak to me about my Reds as if he were in their organization. And he seldom was in a rush to get rid of me.
I never got to meet Red, but I developed a love for him. God bless you, Red Patterson, this common guy shall miss you.
