Glenn E. Lairmore; Executive With JPL Space Flight Program
Glenn E. Lairmore, 71, a retired Air Force colonel who was chief test pilot at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio just after World War II and who after retiring from the military in 1964 joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as manager of the Space Flight Operations Facility and Ground Communication System. The latter two units provide communications with spacecraft traveling interplanetary distances. He also headed JPL’s Systems Division before retiring in 1976 and joining William H. Pickering, former JPL director, in two research and production companies. In Pasadena on Feb. 8 of complications of cancer.
