A man who pointed a gun at SWAT team members serving a narcotics search warrant was shot to death by police at a Long Beach home, police said Friday.
As SWAT team members announced their intent to serve the warrant at 1029 Cerritos Ave. at 7:40 Thursday night, a man confronted them from inside the home and pointed an automatic pistol at Officer Robert Davenport, a 10-year police veteran, said Long Beach Sgt. K.C. Wagner.
Fearing for his life and the safety of their partners, Davenport and Officers Robert Luna and James Ganley fired at the man several times, Wagner said. Luna, 25, has five years on the force and Ganley, 33, is a nine-year veteran, Wagner said.
Faustino Velasquez Rodriguez, 25, died at the scene from a gunshot wound in his chest, authorities said.
