Titans Cancel Baseball Series With Minnesota

A three-game series between the nationally ranked Cal State Fullerton and Minnesota baseball teams, scheduled for today, Saturday and Sunday at Amerige Park, has been canceled because of the rainy weekend forecast.

Fullerton officials made the decision early so Minnesota wouldn’t have to make the trip to Southern California. The team was scheduled to depart Thursday afternoon and would have spent about $10,000 for air fare alone.

“We tried to make an intelligent decision based on respect to them and the money they’re putting out to come here and predicting whether we’d be able to play any games,†said George Horton, Titan associate head coach.

“I’d be surprised if we were able to get one game in. It’s not worth it financially for them to make the trip. We may be sorry if this (weather) breaks up and those other storm fronts don’t come in, but we had to make a decision.â€

Horton said the series won’t be rescheduled because the teams couldn’t work out compatible dates. But Fullerton scheduled a 2 p.m. game today at Loyola Marymount and hopes to schedule two games against local teams to fill out the schedule.
