PREP ROUNDUP : Sunny Hills Defeats Troy, 1-0, on Gugler’s Goal

Heidi Gugler scored off a corner kick 10 minutes into the second half, leading Sunny Hills to a 1-0 victory over host Troy in a Freeway League girls’ soccer match Wednesday.
Sophomore goalie Danielle Broschak made four saves to record her sixth shutout for the Lancers, who improved to 16-3, 7-2. Troy fell to 9-5-3, 5-3-1.
Sunny Hills, winner of 15 of its last 16 matches, is one point ahead of La Habra in the race for the league championship.
In Freeway League boys’ soccer:
Troy 4, Fullerton 0--Frank Gonzales made 12 saves and Jason Dailey, James Hartford, Derek Gomez and Mike Simonian scored as the Warriors improved to 9-3-5, 5-1-3.
In South Coast League boys’ soccer:
Capistrano Valley 3, Irvine 0--Brian Beach made 10 saves to post his seventh shutout of the season, and Jeff Rynders, Chris Wallace and John Brull scored first-half goals for the Cougars (18-3-3, 6-1-2).
El Toro 3, San Clemente 2--Ian Doleman scored the winning goal with eight minutes remaining for host El Toro (11-5-3, 6-2-1). Jair Gonzalez scored two goals for El Toro.
San Clemente is 8-11-2, 3-5-1.
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
Kennedy 44, Santiago 38 (OT)--Lynly Matsumoto had five of her team’ eight points in overtime and scored a game-high 21 points for Kennedy (10-3 in league).
America Robledo had 17 points and Yamila Olmedo had nine points and 16 rebounds for host Santiago (9-12, 6-7).
Rancho Alamitos 99, Los Amigos 24--Lashanda Randle had 22 points for Rancho Alamitos (16-2, 13-0).
