House Purchase Leads Police to Crime Suspect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — John Franklin told police he found $237,000 in two suitcases during an August burglary of a mini-warehouse storage locker and used the loot to buy an $84,000 house, two vehicles, furniture, appliances and designer clothing, authorities said.
The Internal Revenue Service began tracking Franklin after it received a cash-transaction report on his home purchase. IRS agents notified police after they followed Franklin to the same mini-warehouse last month and saw him driving away with a load of goods. He was arrested on burglary charges, and his property was seized, a detective said.
Franklin told officers he had run out of money. No one reported the cash missing, and police believe it was related to drug dealing.
