2-Year-Old Critically Injured by Gang Members’ Shots Apparently Intended for 19-Year-Old Uncle
A 2-year-old boy was critically injured in Hyde Park in gang-related gunfire that authorities believe was intended for the toddler’s uncle.
The attack occurred near Crenshaw Boulevard and 71st Street about 7:20 p.m. The toddler was in the arms of his 19-year-old uncle when he was hit in the head by gunfire, Sgt. Roger Dunning said.
He was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center where doctors gave him a “50-50†chance of surviving, Dunning said. The uncle also was struck by gunfire, but his injuries were described as minor.
“We don’t know if it was a drive-by or a walk-up, but it was gang-related,†the sergeant said. “And the shots were intended for the uncle.â€
