Horne scored four goals as the Saints thrashed Verbum Dei, 8-1, and improved their Camino Real League record to 6-2. The four scores boosted Horne’s season total to an incredible 28 goals and his career total to 55 goals. He is “deadly in front of the net,” said Coach Jerry Horne, Billy’s father.
Other top performers:
* Rodney Malloy, a junior guard for the Lynwood High basketball team, scored 64 points to lead the Knights to three San Gabriel Valley League wins. Malloy scored 16 points in a 66-40 win over Paramount, then scored 26 points as the Knights downed Downey, 77-56. He capped the week with a 22-point effort, including five three-pointers as Lynwood clinched the league championship by defeating Gahr, 84-65.
* Robert Hall, a senior wrestler for Long Beach Jordan, helped improve the Panthers’ Moore League record to 9-2 by pinning his opponent in 23 seconds. Hall, who wrestles in the 189-pound class, improved his season record to 40-2.
