ATV Lawsuit Ends: A 1984 class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court by shareholders of now-defunct ATV Systems Inc. ended when a jury awarded shareholders $4.5 million in damages, according to Dennis Stewart, a local attorney who represented the plaintiffs. The lawsuit was prompted by ATV Systems’ 1983 initial public stock offering. Shareholders alleged fraud on behalf of Philip Gomez and Douglas O’Connor, two former executives of the computer products firm, and the Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) accounting firm. Earlier, E. F. Hutton & Co., which helped prepare ATV Systems’ initial public stock offering, agreed to a $2-million pretrial settlement, according to Stewart. With interest payments, the size of the award could be doubled, he said.
