ORANGE : Workshop to Review Plans for Depot Area
A public workshop on plans to revitalize the Santa Fe Depot area will be held today at City Hall.
The depot area, which is an industrial district, is bounded by Chapman Avenue, Lemon Street and Cypress Street to Sycamore Avenue and Pixley Street.
The city proposes to turn the depot into a restaurant and revive the stop as a commuter train link between Oceanside and Los Angeles.
Part of the project will be financed by the Orange County Transportation Authority and with Measure M funds. Plans call for converting nearby industrial buildings into shops and homes through private financing and relocation of industries in the area, some with aid from the city’s Redevelopment Agency, said city planner Jere Murphy.
The workshop will be held in Conference Room C of the Community Development Building of the Civic Center, 300 East Chapman Ave.
