VENTURA : El Concilio Banquet to Honor 5 Latinos
A record crowd is expected to attend the third annual Latino Leadership Recognition Dinner tonight sponsored by El Concilio del Contado de Ventura, a group representing 21 Latino agencies, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
More than 360 people are expected to attend this year’s event, said Yvonne Gutierrez, exceeding the 340 who turned out last year.
Five Latino individuals will be honored by El Concilio, which was founded in 1975 to support Latino concerns.
Recipients of this year’s honors will be Vince Ruiz, recently retired trustee of the Ventura Unified School District; Javier Gomez, a teacher at Haydock Junior High School in Oxnard who founded Ballet Folklorico Regional and Teatro Inlakech; Art Hernandez, co-owner of Panda Graphics and Home Center Real Estate; Roberta Payan, founding member of Ventura’s Renewed Avenue Pride; and Randy Martinez, a Ventura High School senior who has been honored for his accomplishments in art.
Tila Estrada, who works as a public relations representative for KSTV Canal 57 in Ventura, will serve as the event’s mistress of ceremonies.
Tickets, at $25, are still available for the dinner, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Radisson Suites Hotel in Oxnard. For more information, call El Concilio at 486-4587.
