Coca-Cola Co., the nation’s biggest soft drink company, said its fourth quarter net income rose 21.8% over the same period a year ago, and that full-year earnings were up 17.1%.
The company also said management would recommend that the board approve a two-for-one stock split. Coca-Cola has nearly 664.5 million shares oustanding.
Net income was $358.4 million or 54 cents a share, for the three months ended Dec. 31 compared to $294.4 million or 44 cents a share a year earlier.
Revenue in the quarter were $2.88 billion, up 12.6% from $2.56 billion a year earlier.
Chairman Roberto C. Goizueta said the company continued to show strong growth in its international business and that the U.S. market generated solid results despite the recession.
