HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : St. Genevieve Unable to Catch Bell-Jeff Despite 4th-Quarter Rally
Trailing by 17 points entering the fourth quarter, host St. Genevieve High staged a furious rally but fell short of an upset, losing to Bell Jeff, 61-60, Tuesday night in a San Fernando League basketball game.
Ryan McGinnis and Jeremy Iaccino each had eight points in the final period and 16 in the game. St. Genevieve (6-10, 2-3 in league play) scored 29 points in the fourth quarter.
Brian Camacho scored 18 points for Bell-Jeff (14-4, 5-0).
In others boys’ basketball games:
Santa Clara 68, Fillmore 40--Dave Varela scored 18 points and Isaiah Mustafa added 11 for visiting Santa Clara (17-3, 4-0), which led, 40-12, at halftime of a Frontier League game.
Danny Ocegueda scored 16 points to lead Fillmore (5-14, 0-4).
Hart 93, Burroughs 60--Ali Peek had 34 points and 18 rebounds to lead Hart (11-9, 3-2) in a Foothill League game. Matt Steffe scored 16 and Erik Stephens added 12.
Mike Merina scored 22 points for Burroughs (0-5 in league play).
Burbank 60, San Gabriel 58--Mike Jonas hit two free throws with five seconds to play and the host Bulldogs (5-13, 2-3) scored 17 unanswered points in the second half to rally from an 18-point deficit for a Foothill League win.
David Ranney led Burbank with 16 points and tied the score in the final minute with a three-point shot.
Harvard-Westlake 78, El Segundo 56--Greg Peters scored 13 points, Tarlin Ray had 11 and Alec Jordan added 10 for Harvard (12-6, 4-1) in a San Fernando League win.
Montclair Prep 88, Marshall 52--Kris Johnson scored 22 points to lead the visiting Mounties (18-1, 5-0) to an Alpha League win. Jared Sonne added 19 points and Chris Sanger scored 16 and had nine assists.
Campbell Hall 67, Whitney 53--Austin McKellar scored a game-high 25 points to lead Campbell Hall (12-6, 5-2) in a Delphic League game at Whitney.
Scott Glass scored 14 points and Alex Lopez added 11 for the Vikings.
Highland Hall 77, Le Lycee 47--Ed Anastas scored 23 points and John Klejnot added 20 points, 21 rebounds and four blocked shots for visiting Highland Hall (9-4) in a nonleague game.
Jake Hooper scored 10 of his 16 points in the first quarter for Highland Hall.
Maranatha 50, L.A. Baptist 47--Mark Heerema scored 16 points and Judd Frazier added 10 for host L.A. Baptist (11-6, 3-2) in an Alpha League game.
Lutheran 68, Pacific Christian 50--Paul Maldonado led the Lion offense with 14 points and L.A. Lutheran’s tough man-to-man defense tired out host Pacific Christian in the second half of a Heritage League game.
Kevin Brown added 11 points and six assists for the Lions (14-3, 8-0).
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Alemany 76, Notre Dame 45--Four players scored in double figures to lead the Indians (16-4, 4-1) in a Mission League rout against visiting Notre Dame (6-9, 0-5).
Rachel Corelli scored a game-high 15 points followed by Barbara Ward (13), Sarah Guziel (12),and Sam Rigley (10).
Thousand Oaks 82, Simi Valley 43--Michelle Palmisano scored a game-high 29 points to lead host Thousand Oaks (18-1, 8-0) in a Marmonte League game.
Sasha Scardino and Samantha Clark each added 15 points and Lori Sherman scored all 10 of her points in the third quarter for the Lancers, who won their 12th consecutive game.
Buena 107, Hueneme 37--Julie Hardy had 17 points and six other Bulldogs scored in double figures as Buena (15-1, 8-0) roared to a Channel League win. Guards Amanda Falls and Andrea Hilsman combined for 20 steals for Buena.
Westlake 73, Royal 28--Lauren Goldstine scored a game-high 25 points and Marlee Organ added 21 for Westlake (15-4, 7-1) in a Marmonte League game at Royal.
St. Bernard 53, Chaminade 42--Joi Turner and Olympia Scott each scored 16 points for host St. Bernard in a Mission League game.
Zevette Mitchell led Chaminade (13-7, 2-3) with 12 points and Georgia Roy had 17 rebounds.
Oak Park 53, St. Bonaventure 44--Jodi Runyen scored 16 points and took 12 rebounds as the host Eagles (9-7, 4-1) avenged a tournament loss last month to St. Bonaventure with a Tri-Valley League victory.
Western Christian 60, Village Christian 44--Christy Ludwig had 13 points and seven blocks and sophomore Jeanne Beauchamp added 11 points and eight assists for host Village Christian (9-7, 2-3) in an Alpha League game.
Montclair Prep 47, Marshall Fundamental 32--Patti Shaw scored a game-high 17 points and Kendra Dousette had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Montclair Prep (5-7, 1-4) in an Alpha League game. Lesley Feldman added 15 points for Montclair Prep.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Calabasas 4, Santa Paula 2--Steve Thomas and Jason Lonas each scored two goals for the visiting Coyotes (13-3-1, 3-1) in a Frontier League match.
Calabasas dominated play in the first half and took a 3-0 lead. Santa Paula fell to 11-4-1 and 3-1.
Oak Park 3, Carpinteria 0--Pablo Torres scored two goals and Jeff Gibbons added another to lead host Oak Park (9-2-3, 6-0-2) in a Tri-Valley League match.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Nordhoff 5, Fillmore 0--Charlee Bell scored twice, bringing her season total to 14 goals, and Karin Easling, Rachelle Fleming and Tacy Franklin added single goals for the host Rangers (7-2-3, 2-1-1) in a Frontier League match.
Franklin split time in the nets with backup goalie Lisa Frederico to earn the shutout.
Burroughs 3, Hart 2--Tanja Martinez had one assist and two goals, including the decisive score with 20 minutes to play, for the host Indians (8-3-1, 4-1) in a Foothill League match.
Lorrie McIntire also scored for Burroughs, which trailed, 1-0.
