Mexico Governor Quits Amid Fraud Charges

MEXICO CITY — The governor of Mexico’s oil-rich state of Tabasco, where recent elections were marred by allegations of vote fraud, submitted his resignation Tuesday.
The state government said that Gov. Salvador Neme Castillo is leaving the post to fill an unspecified position in the agricultural sector at the request of President Carlos Salinas de Gortari. However, a Salinas aide said he was unaware of Neme’s appointment to any position in the federal government.
