An 81-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night by a motorist who failed to see him crossing East Channel Islands Boulevard, Oxnard police said.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was walking across the street near Statham Boulevard at 6:20 p.m. when he was hit by a car driven by Amy Apodoca, 30, of Westlake Village, police said.
Traffic investigator Ernie Orozco said Apodoca was driving about 35 m.p.h.
The victim, who lived in the neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, Orozco said. He said no charges were filed Monday night against the driver, though the investigation is continuing.
