Tree Decorations Cause $20,000 Fire in Sylmar
Fire gutted a Sylmar apartment Monday after decorative lights ignited a dry Christmas tree, authorities said.
No one was injured in the blaze that began about 2 p.m. in an apartment complex in the 14000 block of Foothill Boulevard, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek said.
Residents were evacuating the building when firefighters, alerted by a 911 call, arrived. It took 35 firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the blaze, Marek said.
The fire caused $10,000 in damage to the third-floor apartment and destroyed contents worth $10,000, Marek said.
