Telethon Total: Singer Lou Rawls’ 12th annual telethon to benefit black colleges collected $10 million in pledges at the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood and the Apollo Theatre in Harlem on Saturday. Nancy Wilson, Ed McMahon and Marilyn McCoo co-hosted the L.A. event with Rawls. Singer Clint Holmes and actress Jackee co-hosted in New York. Participants included Bill Cosby, Bob Hope, Melba Moore, Reba McEntire and Roseanne and Tom Arnold. Proceeds from the telethon help United Negro College Fund schools keep tuition low for about 50,000 students.
