Pets Rescued in Moorpark Blaze
Two poodles and a parakeet were saved Wednesday afternoon by firefighters who fought a blaze that began in the garage of a one-story house in Moorpark, authorities said.
The owners were not home when a fire began in the garage in the 1000 block of Golondrina Street about 12:05 p.m., said Jackie Noel, a Ventura County Fire Department dispatcher.
The fire was confined to the garage and no one was hurt, Noel said. Firefighters found the dogs and the bird inside the house, Noel said. The pets were later returned to the grateful family, she said.
The blaze, which was under control in about an hour, caused about $62,000 in damage to the structure and $12,000 in damage to the contents, Noel said.
Some combustible material was next to the furnace vent and ignited, said Cece Grives, another fire dispatcher.
