A local oil production company has agreed to pay $151,057 in civil penalties and attorneys’ fees for dumping waste crude oil on roads near the Sespe Condor Sanctuary, a Ventura County district attorney’s spokesman said Thursday.

Santa Fe Energy Resources Inc. of Delaware is prohibited from disposing of any more oil on roads under the injunction handed down Thursday, Deputy Dist. Atty. Gregory Brose said.

It also was instructed to provide respiratory safety equipment for employees exposed to toxic gases, he said.

A company truck driver reported the dumping in 1987, and the district attorney filed a complaint in October, 1990, Brose said. The employee complained of irritated eyes and burning nasal passages, he said.
