Police summoned to the scene of the shooting at 3:30 p.m. found Vidal Espinoza lying in the bushes just east of Oxnard Boulevard near 1st Street, Sgt. Denny Phillips said.
Espinoza was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.
An area businessman who was in the vicinity said he saw as many as seven men fighting before the shooting. Afterward, the men fled in different directions, with one man almost getting hit by a car as he sprinted across Oxnard Boulevard, the businessman said.
