Irvine Women Lose to Texas Christian
Kathy Lizarraga had a career-high 26 points, but UC Irvine was outscored by nine points from the free-throw line in a 77-69 loss to Texas Christian in the women’s championship game of the Disneyland Freedom Bowl Classic in front of 113 Saturday at Bren Center.
The Horned Frogs (3-1) hit 26 of 37 free throws (70.3%) while the Anteaters (2-3) made only 17 of 24 (70.8%). Irvine guard Chrissy Chang and forwards Geanine Hobbs and Jinelle Williams fouled out as the Anteaters were called for 26 personals. Texas Christian had 23.
A 5-4 senior guard from Calexico, Lizarraga was six for 12 from three-point range, two for six on two-pointers and made all four free throws.
