OUTLOOK
No one knows much about this team, including its first-year coach Sand, who took over after coaching the Troy boys’ junior varsity last season. One thing is certain; the Warriors have height and plan to play a power, post-up game. Four players are 6 feet 2 or taller, including Logemann, the team’s best player. “She is very athletic,†Sand said. “You would think at 6-2 she wouldn’t move all that well, but she’s out there filling the lane on the fast break.†The athleticism isn’t surprising considering Logemann’s older brother, Thorpe, was a standout water polo player at Troy and is currently a key player on the junior national team. Although it’s hard to overlook the four 6-footers, the key to Troy’s season may be in the backcourt, where Sand is entrusting his offense to a 5-1 freshman, Shah. Sand is quietly optimistic about the potential of his team, but he is also realistic. “We’re not in a position to think ‘Can we beat La Habra?’ †Sand said. “This team won one game last season, so we haven’t talked about winning. That will take care of itself. The No. 1 thing we need is experience. We’re striving for improvement every day, and hopefully when league rolls around, we’ll be a team to be reckoned with.â€
