Lufthansa Earnings Bounce Back: Germany’s state-owned airliner said it swung back into profitability in the third quarter, earning a pretax profit of $106.8 million. However, for the first nine months of the year, it still had a loss of $98.75 million. Like many airlines, Lufthansa suffered a huge drop in passengers during the Gulf War between January and March. Because of that, it said, it expects a loss for the year.
