BENEFIT CONCERT: Sponsored by the Irish Entertainment Community, a benefit concert for the family of John O’Brien, a 28-year-old newlywed and recent immigrant killed during a robbery on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, will be held at 5 p.m. today at St. Ambrose Hall, 1261 N. SAVING THE SHELTER: An all-day “Hair-A-Thon” will be held today to raise funds for the financially troubled YWCA WomenShelter of Long Beach, the only battered women’s shelter in the Long Beach area, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stephen’s Salon, One World Trade Center, Suite 210, Long Beach.
NEW SCHOOL BOSS: Parents in the Paramount Unified School District will have a chance to tell district officials what they want in a new superintendent, scheduled to take office next July. The meeting is scheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m., at district offices, 15110 California Ave.
FEAST: The Los Angeles Zoo will host the Beastly Feast on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The animal celebration offers gourmet grazing to a variety of zoo residents, in keeping with their nutritional requirements. For more information, call the zoo at (213) 666-4090.
TREE LIGHTING: The public is invited on Saturday to a free tree lighting ceremony enhanced by the Southern California Mormon Choir at the Latter-day Saints Temple, beginning at 7 p.m., 10777 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.
