Eric Griffin, who won a world amateur boxing title in 1989, advanced to the 106-pound final Tuesday night by swarming Puerto Rico’s Nelson Dieppa for a 43-11 decision in the world championships at Sydney, Australia.

The other U.S. boxers in the semifinals were Vernon Forrest of Augusta, Ga., at 139 pounds, and super-heavyweight Larry Donald of Cincinnati.

Griffin, of Broussard, La., will box Rogelio Marcelo of Cuba in the final Friday night. Griffin has defeated him the last three times they have fought.
