5 Nonprofit Groups Receive Carnival Proceeds
Five nonprofit organizations in Thousand Oaks have received part of $31,000 raised during this year’s Conejo Valley Days Carnival, officials said.
The money, excess revenue generated during the 35th annual carnival, had been requested earlier in the year by a handful of charity groups.
“After we paid all our bills, we had money left over,†said Irish John Gore, the 1991 chairman. “This year happened to be a real good year.â€
Benefiting from the money are the Conejo Valley Historical Society, which received $3,000; the Conejo Symphony Orchestra, $2,000; Senior Concerns and the new Fitzgerald House, receiving a total of $1,750; the Many Mansions program, $1,000; and the Conejo Valley Days Scholarship Fund, $250.
The remaining $23,000 was given to the Conejo Recreation and Parks District in July “for their outstanding help†before, during and after the two-week event, Gore said.
At last week’s meeting of the Conejo Valley Days Committee, Gore said that any organization seeking money from next year’s event should make requests early.
“Already, over 10 requests have come in,†Gore said.
The 1992 Conejo Valley Days Carnival will take place the last week of April.
