An 18-year-old Sylmar man died early Monday from wounds he received during an apparent gang-related drive-by shooting, Los Angeles police said.
Joseph Rini died during surgery at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, about an hour after the 12:30 a.m. shooting in Pacoima, Detective Woodrow Parks said.
Rini was standing among a group of youths at the corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Chamberlain Street when a car drove up and one of its occupants fired into the crowd, Parks said. He said that it was still unknown whether Rini was the intended target or a bystander, and that no arrests had been made.
