San Marcos
A health club was severely burned during a two-alarm fire, authorities said.
The fire erupted shortly after noon Sunday at California Sports Fitness in the 1300 block of Grand Avenue, said San Marcos Fire Capt. Todd Newman.
More than 25 firefighters from San Marcos, Vista, Encinitas and Escondido were needed to extinguish the blaze, which burned the main part of the complex that housed aerobics rooms and racquetball courts. The fire was put out in about an hour. An adjoining office area suffered smoke damage.
There was no damage estimate. Investigators said the fire could have started during remodeling.
