A 28-year-old unemployed construction worker, suspected of being the “Goofy Bandit”--so named because of his appearance and demeanor--was arrested on suspicion of committing five bank robberies, the FBI announced Friday.
The suspect, Faron Ralph Franke, was arrested by Chula Vista police Thursday after arousing the suspicion of a teller at a bank on Bonita Road, said Joseph Johnson, FBI special agent in charge.
Franke is suspected of robbing banks in San Diego and La Mesa and, if convicted, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
