Malibu : Rent Control Law Delayed
The Malibu City Council has postponed for two weeks approval of a rent control law that will affect about 500 residents of two mobile home parks.
After a 4 1/2-hour hearing Tuesday night attended by more than 250 people, the council delayed action in hopes of devising an ordinance that will be acceptable to both the residents and mobile home park owners.
Rents at both the Paradise Cove and Point Dume parks were frozen under an interim law that took effect when Malibu became a city in March. The law will expire next month. Residents want it extended three years, which the owners vigorously oppose.
