Coastal Commission Approves Resort: The California Coastal Commission has approved the building of a 350-room oceanfront golf resort hotel in Half Moon Bay, a picturesque bedroom community about 25 miles south of San Francisco. The $90-million project, to be built by a Tucson, Ariz., developer next to the existing 18-hole Half Moon Bay Golf Links, will be only the fourth such golf resort along California’s coast. Because of restrictions imposed by the Coastal Act and by local land-use plans, it could well be the last to win approval along the coast north of Monterey for 20 to 30 years, said Jeffrey Mongan, a vice president with Athens Group, the developer.
