Chuck Knoblauch, a second baseman who made the jump from double A to the Minnesota Twins, was voted American League rookie of the year.
Knoblauch received 26 of 28 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers Assn. of America. Toronto pitcher Juan Guzman and Detroit outfielder Milt Cuyler split the other two first-place votes.
Knoblauch batted .281 with 24 doubles, six triples, 50 RBIs and 25 steals in 30 tries.
