Matthews Unit to Buy Cinema Equipment

Matthews Studio Equipment Group, a Burbank company that makes, rents and sells film production equipment, said its Sun Valley-based rental subsidiary, Hollywood Rental Co., has signed a letter of intent to acquire lighting and grip equipment from Atlantic Cinema Equipment Inc. of Statesville, N. C.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed pending completion of an equipment inventory within three weeks. The purchase is expected to be completed by mid-November.

Matthews said the move should improve the company’s market presence in the Southeast, an area that is becoming an increasingly important film and television production center.
