Moorpark Wins With Big 2nd Half

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

There are still a few die-hard fans of L.A. Harbor College football who remember the Seahawks’ glory years, the days when receiver Haven Moses and quarterback Don Horn played for the school.

Moses went on to star with the Denver Broncos of the NFL, and Horn moved on to play for the Green Bay Packers.

The 1991 Harbor team, however, isn’t going anywhere but down.

Moorpark sent the Seahawks to their sixth loss in seven games this season, defeating Harbor, 33-7, Saturday night in a Western State Conference Northern Division game at Moorpark.

The Raiders (6-1, 5-1 in conference play) improved to 2-0 in division play while defeating Harbor for the fifth consecutive time. Moorpark rolled up 409 yards while limiting the Seahawks (1-5 in conference) to 126 yards. Harbor’s biggest gain from scrimmage--14 yards--came on a “fumblerooski†play by 320-pound tackle Tyler Tuione.

Moorpark, which led just 6-0 at intermission, pulled away in the second half behind quarterback Corey Tucker, who threw three touchdown passes in the final two periods. Tucker, who completed seven of 19 passes for 122 yards on the night, had scoring passes of 32 and 36 yards to John Aylsworth and threw a 29-yard scoring strike to Curtis Marsh.

Tucker has completed 34 of 63 for 524 yards and seven touchdowns in the past three games, a span in which Moorpark has outscored its opponents, 109-17.

The Raider rushing attack was led by Jamal Anderson, who gained 179 yards in 26 carries and scored a touchdown. It was Anderson’s fourth consecutive game with more than 100 yards rushing.

Moorpark scored on its first possession, then struggled offensively for the remainder of the first half.

The Raiders drove 95 yards in 11 plays and scored on Anderson’s 16-yard run midway through the first period, but Moorpark botched the point-after attempt and had to settle for a 6-0 lead.

The Raiders turned the ball over twice in the first half--once on a Tucker fumble and once when a Tucker pass was intercepted by Carlos Roberts. Tucker was just three of 10 for 28 yards in the first half and had a 53-yard touchdown pass to Marsh called back because of a penalty.

Moorpark held Harbor to 21 yards rushing and 27 passing in the first half.
