Gays Protest Governor’s Veto

In response to “Police on Horseback Break Up Gay Protest,” Oct. 24:
I will not negotiate one iota my right to peacefully assemble, whether or not the government agrees with my message.
A Los Angeles Police Department sergeant would have the public believe that we were “too disruptive” and needed to “be disbursed.” He claimed the police were “striking a balance” and incorrectly alleged the protesters were “striking the horses.” The only things struck the evening of Oct. 23 were our nerves and tired bodies.
Gov. Pete Wilson led us to believe he would sign AB 101 to protect us against job discrimination but, thanks to political duplicity and expediency, has made our lives a living hell. We have no choice but to scream out in peaceful protest and then organize our hearts, minds and pens.
